Role Description

The Revenue Accounting Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely recognition of revenue in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies. This role involves analyzing contracts, sales agreements, and financial transactions to determine the appropriate timing and method of revenue recognition. The Revenue Accounting Specialist works closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, finance, and legal, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to support financial reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in revenue accounting, financial reporting, or auditing, preferably in a public accounting firm or corporate finance environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP or IFRS principles and revenue recognition rules.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and revenue recognition software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a focus on accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze contracts, sales orders, and other revenue-generating transactions to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment under GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements related to revenue recognition.
  • Document revenue recognition policies and procedures and ensure adherence across the organization.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue reports and reconciliations.
  • Analyze revenue trends, variances, and fluctuations to identify potential issues or areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and disclosures related to revenue recognition for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with sales, finance, legal, and other departments to resolve revenue recognition issues and ensure alignment on contract terms and conditions.
  • Provide guidance and training to stakeholders on revenue recognition policies and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits related to revenue recognition and financial reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve revenue accounting processes and controls.
  • Implement best practices and automation tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in revenue recognition.
  • Participate in projects or initiatives to enhance financial reporting capabilities and compliance.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements related to revenue recognition.
  • Interpret and apply new accounting pronouncements or guidance related to revenue recognition.
  • Provide advisory support to management and stakeholders on revenue recognition matters.
